Dear CrossPointe Families,
Student questions on faith were Monday’s LIFE talk by Marcus. The questions his thoughts centered around were- “How do I bring God into all my relationships? And why is community so important?” He began by telling a personal story of scuba diving in a large aquarium with numerous aquatic animals including the largest fish in the ocean, a whale shark. Scuba diving with a buddy system provides many benefits and really isn’t optional. In absolute emergency situations such as running out of air, a panic situation or entanglement, a buddy is an immediate source of life-saving help, without which the consequences could be life-threatening. Navigational help – two brains are often better than one in navigational challenges! Marcus continued his story of how when he was at the bottom of a tank, his gear limited his vision. Without his buddy he would never have known that the whale shark was immediately above him within touching distance. Using the example of the significance of the buddy system in scuba diving he related it to the value of community and the importance of bringing God into our relationships in that community. We will enter hard situations in life. Life will distract us. When these things happen we are less likely to be aware of God’s presence. When we are surrounded by other believers in Christian community, we are empowered in our faith and are more sensitive to God’s presence in our lives. The defining characteristic of God’s presence is LOVE. We can bring God’s love into all relationships no matter the place or the moment.
Christian community was evident in Tuesday’s LIFE led by student council representative Charis Joneshill. Charis’ servant heart of encouragement was evident in the activity she chose and led during LIFE. She asked the students to get in their Big Buddy/Little Buddy groups and make thank you cards for Mr. Tony the custodian. Wow! Student initiated service is what Christian community is all about. Charis’ love for others opened the student body’s eyes to be grateful! Thank you Charis, well done!
It is a blessing to be in Christian community with our CrossPointe family! Thank you! Joyously serving,
Tammy Dawson
